We are looking to hire a Engineering Technician/Technologist to join our Bell Creek Mine in Porcupine, ON., on a full-time basis.  The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8 hrs/day or 4 on, 3 off, 10 hrs/day.

Compensation: This position offers a salary range of $85,000 – $100,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.

Vacancy Status: This is an existing vacancy. The successful candidate may begin as soon as possible.

Please note that this role requires relocation to the Timmins area and is not a camp-based position.

The role of the Engineering Technician/Technologist is responsible for various engineering functions related to underground mining.

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer or designate, some of your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Design and issue drill patterns, loading and timing for production blasting
  • Assist with borehole surveys and fragmentation studies
  • Conduct ventilation surveys of the underground workings, perform inspections, and troubleshoot to maintain compliance
  • Assist with various underground surveying tasks of active headings and issue updated driving layouts
  • Conduct routine underground inspections that will allow for efficient planning/design tasks
  • Gather and analyze data, plan, organize and prioritize work, deliver timely information

Secondary responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with time studies, routine engineering projects, and other QA/QC tasks
  • Prepare and conduct weekly ventilation meeting
  • Assist with sampling requirements for the Airborne Hazard Management Plan
  • Design upcoming development headings and produce driving layouts
  • Provide continuous support to items related to the Water Management Plan
  • Update master level drawings, master long sections and master ventilation schematics
  • Participate actively in training programs, personal improvement, and job improvement initiatives
  • Continually develop the ability, knowledge, and skills necessary to keep up with the changing methods and technology in the job
  • Perform other duties, as requested

More About You

While our ideal candidate has the following qualifications, we welcome applicants who may not meet every criterion to apply.

  • Completion of a two-year Mine Technician or three-year Mine Technologist college degree or related experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience performing ventilation, surveying and/or other similar work in an underground setting
  • Accreditation as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist (under OACETT) is an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, MS Project, PowerPoint)
  • Hands-on experience in mine planning, preferably with Deswik software package would be considered an asset
  • Ability to use and calibrate associated survey equipment, including borehole monitoring equipment
  • Previous experience with planning/design would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with various workgroups 
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada.
