Meridian Beartrack Co., a subsidiary of Pan American Silver Corp., is currently seeking a full-time Utility Technician with some heavy equipment operating and infrastructure maintenance experience at our Beartrack Mine in Idaho. Requirements include maintaining buildings, pipe and valve systems, stormwater control facilities, tracking heavy equipment maintenance schedules, debris cleanup, revegetation, localized weed control, and custodian duties.  You’ll repair and maintain several miles of jackleg range fence as well as occasional fence construction. You’ll coordinate contractors and vendors for work and supplies that are outside the scope of your abilities, to manage the site safely and effectively. To ensure success as a Utility Technician, you are expected to be timely, responsible, reliable, and an observant self-starter who is prepared to work independently and does not require extensive supervision to maintain work ethic and complete a list of tasks.  There is an advancement opportunity that includes training to operate and monitor water treatment systems and facilities as delegated by the Site Manager. After training, you will transport and maintain petroleum and water treatment chemicals delivery and placement.  Demonstrating critical thinking skills is important for career progression.

Major responsibilities

  • The essential functions of this job position include, but are not limited to, the following tasks and duties an employee encounters while performing this job:
  • Maintain buildings, pipe and valve systems, stormwater control facilities, debris cleanup, revegetation, localized weed control.
  • Repair and maintain several miles of jackleg range fence as well as occasional fence construction.
  • Herd livestock on rugged terrain outside the range fence when necessary.
  • Perform general and schedule advanced maintenance on company vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate or train to operate a motor grader, front-end loader, backhoe, and fork-lift. 
  • Read and follow instructions, manuals, permits, and other technical guidance documents for operating and maintaining equipment, and carrying out other designated responsibilities. 
  • Maintain and use company property in a careful and organized fashion.
  • Follow policies and procedures to ensure the project remains safe and compliant with all rules and regulations to ensure employee and environmental safety.
  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance.
  • Address personal conflicts in a calm, thoughtful, and direct manner, soliciting mediation from a next-level supervisor if needed.
  • Ask for help, knowing that a learning attitude is a path to a successful career.
  • Perform all essential job functions without posing a direct threat of harm to yourself or others.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check that includes driving record.
  • Have a good driving record and safely, respectfully operate company vehicles and equipment
  • Live within an hour of daily mountain commute to the project site. Company truck provided.
  • Comply with and enforce Company policies and procedures.

Work Environment

You’re required to work outside in all weather (extreme cold, wet, and hot conditions at times), and to safely complete heavy labor tasks as needed sometimes in rough terrain.  Occasionally you’ll work in smokey conditions resulting from regional forest fires.

Essential Physical Requirements of Position

  • Ability to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 pounds from ground level and carry over irregular ground for 50 feet.
  • Ability to extend arms and lift weight over one’s head, swing heavy hammers, use large pry bars, hand shovels, chain saws and other equipment/tools requiring similar motions.
  • Ability to stand, walk and occasionally crouch and/or kneel for extended periods on uneven and varying terrain as needed for any required tasks.
  • Ability to occasionally climb and work from tall ladders.
  • Ability to occasionally work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to always wear personal protective equipment appropriate for any required task

Desired Education and/or Experience

  • Experience operating light and heavy wheeled equipment safely.
  • Experience operating a motor grader, front-end loader, backhoe, and fork-lift.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools including a chainsaw safely.
  • General vehicle mechanical inspection and maintenance.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CDL is preferred but not required.
