We are looking to hire an Environmental Coordinator to join our team at the Timmins Operations in Timmins, ON., on a Contract basis. The work schedule is either Monday-Friday, 8 hours a day, or 4 days on/3 days off, 10-hour shifts. 

Please note that this role requires relocation to the Timmins area and is not a camp-based position.

The role of the Environmental Coordinator will be to work closely with the environmental and operational teams on site to ensure all current and future mine activities are permitted according to applicable legislation and assist in various sustainability-related tasks and initiatives.


Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Supervisor of Environmental Services, the Environmental Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

  • Obtain and/or amend all necessary environmental permits, certificates, and licenses related to exploration, operations, and closure
  • Identify and communicate stakeholder consultation requirements related to permitting activities to the CSR team for implementation
  • Complete and update a detailed audit of Timmins operations liabilities to ensure all items are accounted for in closure-related permitting with appropriate financial assurance
  • Implement studies, certification requirements, confirmation of rehabilitation strategies, projects, and other tasks associated with planned closure, progressive rehabilitation, and operations
  • Develop, track, and report on permitting and progressive rehabilitation budgets
  • Implement and manage all aspects related to Temporary Suspension, State of Inactivity, and/or Mine Closure as required 
  • Support the environmental department in maintaining and updating Environmental Management Systems, review to ensure compliance with legislative commitments, and provide training to all staff as required
  • Assist in Energy data collection and reporting
  • Assist the environmental department in the implementation of site monitoring activities as required
  • Support the environmental department in the implementation of corporate initiatives including, but not limited to, the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining program, sustainability reporting, sustainability goals, and requirements of other standards and policies.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • University or College graduates in an Environmental field with 5+ years of related work experience
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation associated with mining projects
  • Project management experience is considered an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Class G License and insurable
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to operate boats, snow machines and all-terrain vehicles
  • Possess strong leadership skills and have initiative, as well as be innovative and analytical
  • Strong computer skills are required (EQWin, ArcGIS)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada
